Welcome to St Francis Xavier’s Parish – Narrabri, NSW
We’re so glad you’re here.
At St Francis Xavier’s Parish in Narrabri, we welcome you with open hearts into a community where faith is lived, celebrated, and shared. Whether you’re just visiting, new to town, returning to the Church, or looking for a parish to call home, we invite you to journey with us in faith, hope, and love.
Narrabri is a vibrant regional town in the heart of North West New South Wales. Surrounded by rich farmland and the beauty of the Namoi River and Mount Kaputar, our town is known for its warm hospitality and strong sense of community. The same can be said of our parish family—where everyone is welcome, valued, and needed.
A Parish Grounded in Faith and Mission
St Francis Xavier’s Parish is part of the Catholic Diocese of Armidale, and we proudly bear the name of the great missionary saint, St Francis Xavier, whose passion for proclaiming the Gospel continues to inspire us today.
We gather as a Eucharistic community to celebrate God’s presence in our lives, to grow in faith, and to reach out in love to those in need. Our parish strives to be more than just a building or a Sunday gathering—it is a living Church, made up of everyday people responding to God’s call in their lives.
“You are the Body of Christ, and individually members of it.”
— 1 Corinthians 12:27
Our Parish School: St Francis Xavier’s Primary School
One of our greatest blessings is our strong partnership with St Francis Xavier’s Primary School, which serves the children and families of our parish with a commitment to academic excellence, faith formation, and pastoral care. The school plays a vital role in passing on the Catholic faith to the next generation, in close collaboration with the parish.
We are proud of the school’s vibrant spirit, inclusive culture, and its nurturing environment where every child is known and loved.
A Glimpse into Our Parish History
Catholic life in Narrabri traces its roots back to the mid-1800s, with the earliest Masses celebrated by traveling priests in homes and makeshift chapels. The foundation of St Francis Xavier’s Church marked a new chapter in the growth of Catholic faith in the region. Over the decades, the parish has been served by dedicated clergy, religious, and laypeople whose faith and generosity have shaped the strong, welcoming community we know today.
Our beautiful church building and associated ministries continue to be places of encounter with Christ and one another—drawing people closer to God through Word, Sacrament, and service.
Be More Than a Churchgoer—Be Church
We are all called to more than just attending church. We are called to be the Church—to live as disciples of Jesus in our daily lives, to serve one another in love, and to build a community that reflects the joy and compassion of the Gospel.
Whether it’s through liturgical ministries, outreach to the sick or elderly, faith formation, music, hospitality, or quiet acts of kindness—there is a place for you here. As Pope Francis reminds us:
“The Church is not a refuge for sad people, but a house of joy!”
So come, grow with us. Bring your story, your gifts, and your desire to serve. Together, let’s live out our faith in meaningful and joyful ways—for the glory of God and the good of His people.
